The only thing I am worried about is the Staples Center policy about banners: they are so strict on everything, I wonder if they will even allow banners in to be dropped off at the info desk to be hung! Might be worth asking first! I know they won't even allow in larger bags with toys to be thrown on the ice, you will have to buy them inside. Also people will have to go through metal detectors everytime, what a drag! - ETA Staples Center policy for banners www.staplescenter.com/doublecol.php?section=guestservices&page=faqs#b

I don't think I've ever seen a skating competition where there were no banners. 11" by 17" sounds rather small though. I wonder if they're really going to check every banner for size. And good that sticks and poles are not allowed so your view won't be obstructed by stupid people with commercial banners during the last group of the FD.
I have to go through metal detectors every day for work AND have my iris scanned as well. It's very annoying, especially because I wear the same work clothes every day and they shouldn't make the detector go off, but some the thing is so sensitive that even the zipper of my trousers is too much metal. It really is a drag and I can understand it for airport security, but for a sporting event... come on...!? :S

I guess those people's poles and sticks would be allowed in no matter what, Renee: it's the powerful sponsors! You bet at the Staple Center every square inch of space will be coverd by sponsors ads, so no hope of having the banners hanged by the organization either, I suppose! Maybe we can ask someone who was at the Staples for the 2002 Nationals, or watch videos from that competition, although rules might have been different back then!

For Euros 80% of the sponsors were Russian, for Worlds this is not the case. I bet Olympus and Kyocera would never send people with banners to the arena... www.isuworlds2009.com/sponsors.php

That's the usual policy for ISU championships.

That's the usual policy for ISU championships. Right! I'd hate to lose a beautiful Oksana and Maxim banner though, since they cannot garantee they will give it back! Still, it's worth the risk, I think!

No that would be a shame! But I guess if you requested it back after the FD or before Ladies Free they'd have enough time to take it down. Like we did in Helsinki.

Which CD is everyone hoping for? Paso Doble or Viennese Waltz? I'm not really sure yet. I've never see them do a Paso Doble so it would be cool to see how they pull that off, but they have a very strong Waltz so I think it would be an advantage for them if that was drawn.
CD will be drawn at Junior Worlds so just a couple more days and we will know.

Yes, and to have it there it's probably still worth the risk of losing it! Although, given our experience at the Euros (and it seems like it will be the same in LA) maybe it's more effective to have a smaller sign to hold before and after they skate and that will be shown on TV, rather than a huge banner hung in some dark corner of the arena, that nobody will ever see. If I were to go I would probably try to do both!

I would love to see them doing the Paso Doble, and I think that would suit them just fine. On the other hand, like you said, they have the strongest Waltz, and to have that as a CD at the Worlds would give them a good advantage over the others. So yes, bring on the Waltz!!!

I don`t know is it good or no "Paso Doble - the Compulsory Dance for ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2009 Feb 22 2009 The Compulsory Dance drawn to be skated at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2009 is #16 Paso Doble. In accordance with Rule 639 paragraph 2 c) the draw of the Compulsory Dance for the ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2009 has been conducted during the Team Leaders Meeting of the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships in Sofia /BUL on Sunday, February 22, 2009."
