Watch the practice video on Channel 1 Russia: Practice"Ice and Fire" Week 1"Ice and Fire" premiered last Sunday. This first week, Maxim Shabalin and his partner Ekaterina Vilkova performed a fiery-hot number on the dancefloor to the sound of "Harder and Harder to Breathe" by Maroon 5. The choreography was created in "Apache Dance" style, a fast and racy style very popular in Hollywood during the early years of the 20th century, and during the Great Depression. The couple depicts a fight to the music, with some acrobatic elements. Watch the 1° dance video on Channel 1 Russia: Dancedomnina-shabalin.ru

Week 1: Translation of spoken excerpts from this week's showSource: en.domnina-shabalin.ru/publ/2009_10/ice_and_fire_week_1_translation/7-1-0-44 From the Practice Video:- Katya: I have been dancing since I was a child and I am familiar with all styles, especially the one in which we are now beginning to dance. I like the music and this makes it easier. I remember when I met Maxim for the first time and we exchanged greetings. I saw his big strong hands and thought - "no let down here!" - Max: Dancing on the floor is certainly a risky move for us because on the ice we skate as professional and amateur, whereas here we come out as 2 amateurs, and therefore it seems to me that this takes a lot of courage. I think that everybody will be curious to try this new format themselves. - Katya(about Max again): He's very nice! He can calmly teach me things, he doesn't lose his temper and he takes me with some humor. I think everything will be fine. Short Interview after the dance number:- Host: Maxim, just a few months ago the whole country was watching you at the Olys, was worrying and cheering for you, and celebrated with you when you've become Olympic bronze-medal winner. Now you've left the professional sport and opened up the door to a new big life - how does it suit you? - Max: It suits me fine! Now I feel perfect and enjoy life. I have time to do things I hadn't time to do before, and I use this time to discover myself in a new role.

From the Official Website"Ice and Fire" - Week 2
Last night on Channel 1 Russia, "Ice and Fire" contenders showed the audience their skills in modern dance. Dancing their way through the second week of the TV show, Ekaterina Vilkova and Maxim Shabalin, performed a very passionate and sensual floor routine to the notes of "Be Italian", from the soundtrack of "Nine", on a sand-covered dance floor. This is what Ilya Averbukh had to say about it on the show's official website: "For the shooting of Katya Vilkova and Maxim Shabalin's performance we had 50 bags of sand brought especially on the set and quickly emptied on the dance floor. Unfortunately, during rehearsal we could only fill with a modest quantity of sand a small two square metres area, therefore Katya and Maxim performed in a very hard situation. The sand behaved in an unpredicted way: it poured onto the unprepared surface and where the layer was thinner it got slippery and the guys couldn't control their feet. As they admitted later "All we could do was hang on by our teeth!" Nevertheless, as far as the interpretation, this small inconvenience worked as an advantage."Watch the videos on Channel One: Practice Dance Translation of Maxim and Ekaterina's spoken excerpts Ekaterina and Maxim placed 5th on the night, with a total score of 11.90. We are looking forward to the duo's debut on the ice, Maxim's more familiar element. The first round of the ice competition will air next Sunday. Best of luck to Maxim and Ekaterina!
