Oksana and Maxim talk about their music choices for the new season on their Official Website
Quote:
There you have it, our dearest fans, the guessing is over now, our music choices for the Olympic season have been revealed! We are pleased that you were able to guess one of the tunes in our free dance, and happy that you seem to share our tastes and think that this music suits us well. It was not an easy choice to make, because this year is so important for all of us.We considered many options, but in the end we decided to go for something powerful, beautiful, deep and passional. Our free dance is called "Passion". With this dance we will try to tell about all the feelings between a woman and a man: passion, tenderness, love, hate, and affection. About all the tensions that build in a relationship, and that are experienced by those who are in love, who love and are loved.
Our original dance, "Australian Aboriginals", was a very unexpected choice for us as much as it probably is for you! We would have never imagined us doing something like this! Nevertheless, we believe that you will be amazed by the result of this funny and unusual dance, an original dance indeed!
Dearest fans, unfortunately the premiere of our programs has been postponed. In fact, we will not be participating in the Grand Prix Series events. At any rate, our main goal this season are the Olympic Games in Vancouver. Please hang on a little longer, and we will sure see you soon!

Oksana and Maxim have now their own Blog on Sports.ru. They will share their thoughts and impressions about everyday life, training and competitions. The blog is also available on their Official Website.
Unfortunately this is only in Russian for now, so if you don't speak the language, get those automatic translators going! You can still post your questions to them in English on their official website Russian Guestbook, and find the answers translated on their official website English Guestbook.
Today Oksana attended the "Rostelecom Cup" as a spectator. Fans of the couple took advantage of this occasion to present her with gifts collected by Russian fan forum domninashabalin.ipb.su, as well as to express regret at the absence of their favorite figure skaters at this Grand Prix event. Oksana thanked the fans warmly, and apologized for postponing the meeting with the audience, reassuring everyone that this will take place at the National Championships of Russia, held in Saint Petersburg in late December this year
— Due to a slight aggravation of his previous injury he is now undergoing medical procedures. The doctors felt he needed some medical treatment and suggested to avoid overload on his knee for a short period. So we had to sacrifice the Rostelecom Moscow competition, in order to compete successfully in the other upcoming events.
— Are you going to come over for the Russian Nationals in December?
— Absolutely, it's necessary! We will compete at the Nationals and at the Euros in Tallinn. After all we need some competitive practice! By the end of this week we'll be flying back to the US to resume training.
— You kept your programs secret, and they were revealed only very recently. Your Original Dance will be «Aboriginal». What does it mean?
— It's a dance of the Australian natives - says Oksana burring her "r" in the funniest way.
— It sounds very unusual, I wonder how it looks…
— Hard to explain. It will be a surprise for you as it's been for us. By the way, for this dance we will have appropriate Aboriginal costumes and music. It's got to be seen. Watch us at Nationals is St. Petersbourg, then we'll talk about it.
— Good! Now let's talk about your Free Dance from the movie "Requiem for a Dream". Aren't you worried that Italy's Cappellini/La Notte's wonderful dance is on the same music?
— No, not really. We have just one minute from Requiem for a Dream in our program, the rest is from another movie.
— Which movie?
— I don't want to talk about it now. Only a few people know, and mostly we don't want people to rush and watch the movie to compare it to our dance, since it has no relation to either of the movies: we just used the music to build our own story.
Dear supporters and figure skating fans! We now have our own Blog on Sports.ru. Here we will share our thoughts and impressions on past experiences and everyday life, and tell you all about training and competitions. We hope you will be interested in learning more about us. The blog's entries will be posted in English in the Blog section of the website. You may leave your comments and questions on the Russian Guestbook of this website or directly at the Blog on Sports.ru.

New Oksana Domnina Interview about Max's health, Olympic programs, and post Olympics plans.
Quote:
Оksana Domnina: in Vancouver I will have quite a responsibility
2009 World champions Oksana Domnina and Maxim Shabalin had to withdraw from ISU Grand Prix "Rostelecom Cup" due to a slight aggravation of Shabalin's knee injury. Nevertheless, Oksana was at the "Megasport" arena to watch the competition. Our correspondant Olga Ermolina took the opportunity to talk to her.
-- Oksana, how long are you going to stay in Moscow?
-- I will be flying back to the US right after the competitions, and Maxim will join me a couple of days later – he must stay here to complete his treatment .
-- When did you get to know you wouldn`t be competing in the Grand-Prix series?
-- When we arrived in Moscow, after medical examination. The doctors advised Maxim to undergo medical treatment, in order tobe able to skate well in the following months. Of course we were really upset that we wouldn’t get to skate our new programs in Moscow, but you know, sometimes you just need to sacrifice something..
We began working at our new programs in July. We were skating and training hard and Maxim’s injury began to bother him. Unfortunately, we know that his knee will always feel painful, but our goal now is to skate well in Vancouver and it's better to withdraw from the Grand-Prix now to take care of his knee.
-- Are you planning to compete at the National and European Championships?
-- Of course. Because of our situation, we need to compete and be judged at least once.
-- Is there a chance that we might get to see you at the Cup of Moscow, at the end of November?
-- It will all depend on Maxim’s knee. If we don`t have serious health problems and are able to carry on training, we would like to compete there. But I can’t say for sure right now.
-- While in Moscow you trained with Roman Kostomarov. Did you skate your new programs together?
-- Roman came to support and help me. We skated compulsories. Of course, he didn’t skate the original or the free dance. Although he saw our new dances and liked them a lot.
-- Who choreographed your dances?
-- Natalia Linichiuk. Our original dance is called ‘Australian Aborigines’. I think the name speaks for itself. The Free Dance is called “Passion” – it is about love, feelings, emotions – and has no relation whatsoever to the “Requiem for a dream” movie. We only use a small portion of the soundtrack which is followed by another soundtrack . Which one I won`t tell you. You will see it soon.
-- Is it true that you worked with acrobats?
-- Yes, it is. In May we flew to Kiev to train with an acrobatics specialist, but it didn't work out. Then we worked with Sergei Grechushkin, who is an acrobat from the Moscow Circus. He really helped us a lot. Of course our lifts won’t be as acrobatic as Virtue and Moir’s, but we`ll try to show something new.
-- What do you think will be most difficult for you at the Olympics?
-- Everything. Olympic Games are a special competition. We do have the experience of competing at the Olympics, but we weren't fighting for any medal back then. Nevertheless, just living at the Olympic village was enough to feel all the pressure, nerves and responsibility. The most important thing will be to be ready and prepared psychologically. Max and I have already overcome difficult times that have made us stronger. So everything will be fine, I think.
-- Since Maxim was injured you, as his partner, have been forced to skate for both of you. But the Olympics, as you just mentioned, are a special competition.
-- It will be hard, but I feel fine about it. At the Euros, Grand-Prix Final and Worlds I had double responsibility, in Vancouver it will be even more.
-- For the last two years you’ve been training in the US. Did the Americans’ attitude towards you change after you became World champions in Los Angeles?
-- I wouldn’t say so. Of course, we were cherished when we returned to our town after the Championships, but not as much as at Sheremetievo Airport and in Odintsovo. For the Americans we are Russians, US people have their own heroes.
-- Are either of you planning to stay in Delaware after the Olympic games?
-- No, it's not in our plans. In the past year we managed to get used to life in the US, we are approaching many things with a more positive attitude, but what really keeps us going is the thought that we are very close to be going back home.
-- Is it too early to ask about your post-Olympics plans?
-- I prefer not to make plans. Still, to be honest and realistic, Max will have to leave figure-skating. I would like to carry on. I am not ready to reveal my plans yet, but you know, single skating is not my thing.

This is an Exclusive Interview from Oksana Domnina and Maxim Shabalin to their Official Website. Despite the heavy training schedule, the skaters managed to find the time to answer our questions. We hope you will be interested in learning more details about their preparation for the Olympic season.
Quote:
Editorial Staff. Guys, how are you doing, and how is your preparation for the competitions going?
Oksana. Everything is fine. After Maxim's return, we went back to our usual training schedule, and we are currently getting ready for the Russian Nationals. We cannot wait to perform our Olympic programs in front the public and the judges, to show everyone the result of our creative development.
S. And we can't wait see them, but does this mean that that you were forced to sit out the fourth stage of the Russian Cup in Moscow?
O. Unfortunately, yes: we just resumed regular training, and we simply wouldn't have the time to get ready for the competition. We really like our new dances, both the Original and the Free dance, and we would really like to properly introduce them at their best.
S. Your names appear in the advertising ad for the "Crystal Ice" Awards ceremony show, taking place in Luzhniki on December 12. Are you really planning to take part in the show?
O. This was the initial plan, but then we were forced to give it up. We would really like to participate, but at the moment we just can't afford to travel to Russia for just one show.
S. We are sure you are aware of the fact that Anna Cappellini and Luca Lanotte, and Natalie Pechalat and Fabian Bourzat are also using the soundtrack from "Requiem for a dream" for their dances. Were you ever tempted to change the music, before it gets too late?
O. No, absolutely not, for no reason in the world! We really like this music, and the fact that it's also been a choice for other couples doesn't worry us in the least. Plus, that is not the main theme for our free dance.
S. And that is still a well-kept secret... Can you at least anticipate something about the costumes?
O. The costumes are ready. We had them tailored in Moscow and Saint Petersburg, and we are very happy with the result. We won't say anything more though. Just wait a little longer and you will be able to see them at the Russian Nationals.
S. Your free dance is once again about love. Sure enough that is an ever-lasting theme, but we feel it might get hard to come up with different nuances of the theme, year after year. Barbarian dances of a warrior and his concubine, a cynical seducer and his victim, the tragedy of a woman who sends her loved one off to war...What next? And why again a relationship between a man and a woman?
Maxim. What next? You ask such a wonderful question, it makes me feel like answering in an equally elevated style. When one admires earthly beauty, remembering at the same time true beauty, he grows wings and tries to fly; but still strengthless, he looks up, like a little bird, paying no attention to what goes on below. And this is the reason for this ecstatic state. Of all the forms of ecstasy this is the best, by its very origin, for him who experiences it and for the one who shares it with him. The one who loves beauty, participating in this ecstasy, is called the lover. Unfortunately I cannot speak as beautifully as Plato, but I feel very close to what he says.
«The world is tragically beautiful in its fragmentedness. Its harmony is in its disharmony; its unity is in its discord». This is what I feel our dance is about.
S. Let's talk about your original dance. We are sure we won't say anything new by admitting that yours was a very unexpected choice. It is more or less clear how to choreograph a well known-dance, but how do you plan to hold true to the feel and authenticity of this particular dance, and what are your resources?
O. Our choreographer is Natalia Vladimirovna Linichuk, and we rely on her vision of this dance. Of course we also use the Internet as a source of information.
S. Sometimes you get the feeling that this season it is a must to have at least one "around the neck" lift. Are you going to follow this trend?
O. We always try to dictate fashion, not follow it! About the question I can say that we won't have that kind of lifts in our dances.
S. Last season you performed some spectacular lifts which emphasised the gorgeous lines of your couple. Do you feel like telling us how you came up with them, and how you put them into practise?
O. To tell you the truth each year we go through the same painful process! We always try to create something new, effective and original, in line with the existing rules. The process starts with a variety of attempts, rehearsals and failures, but in the end we can come out with some brilliant lifts, like the "firemen ladder" lift (editor's note - that's how the guys jokingly refer to the first "Spartacus" lift).
S. Your path to Vancouver is not an easy one: it goes through pain, separation, resentment, harsh criticism, at times cruel and not very objective....and why not, even the difficulty to find your kefir! From the outside one gets the impression that the obstacles spread on your way only make you stronger. Honestly, did you ever wish to give it all up to follow an easier path? What gives you strength to go on, and what helps you to keep fighting against your rivals and destiny?
O. Oh, but really, who gets it easy in life? In sports, as in life, sooner or later we all go through hard times. Some will experience more than others, someone will get seriously scarred in life and, unfortunately, not everyone will make it through. In sports you can survive only by overcoming difficulties, and we believe that the harder the path, the sweeter the ending. We have one goal, one dream and, despite all adversities, we will try to reach it with all our strength, and let's hope for the best!
S. At the Grand Prix competition in Moscow, Russian fans presented you with a gift which consisted in home-made magnets sent to you to show support from different parts of Russia. Were you impressed with the geography? Also, judging by the statistics of the website hits, your fans are scattered all over the world. Can you feel the support from all your fans? Does this help you, or does it put pressure on you, making it hard to fully concentrate on the sport?
O. It is a great pleasure to us to know that we are loved in many places and countries. It gives us confidence in what we do. People's support does not bother us at all, how could it! On the contrary: it gives us strength and makes us fly! Thank you, dear fans!!!
S. In Moscow, you were also presented with the annual award from the Russian figure-skating fans «Russian FSO Awards»...
O. Yes, and we were delighted with it, the matryoshka dolls are wonderful. A huge thank to the organisers, to the creator of the prices and to all those who voted for us.
S. Oksana, you recently stated in an interview that you want to carry on skating after the Olympic Games...
O. I didn't state that, I only mentioned that it's theoretically possible, nothing more than that. Actually, at the moment there are no plans, and I'm not even going to think about it. Vancouver is our goal, and everything depends on that.
